Our Theory courses follow the Syllabus of the Royal Conservatory of Music.
RCM theory is the theoretical component of the RCM system. It is a written exam, separate from the practical, played exam. Starting at Grade 5, the RCM has a theory co-requisite involved in the grade. Each theory grade must be completed along with the practical exam for the certificate to be issued.
Although students receive their practical mark and examiners comments, they will not receive the certificate unless the theory co-requisite is completed.
Although the Grade 5 practical examination has the Grade 5 theory component as co-requisite, it is strongly recommended for students to start learning about Theory before then (as early as Grade 3), as the knowledge acquired is fully transferable and should be integrated in the practical preparation of studies and repertoire material.
